A minor of 17 years old who is involved in the death of Kim Gómez, the girl murdered in La Plata, had been detained weeks before that tragic event. On February 1, the police arrested four minors for stealing a car in the same city.
The incident took place on 61st Street, between 14 and 15, where four minors aged 14, 15, 16, and 17 stole a white Ford KA and attempted to flee. After a chase that started in the urban area, the police followed them and saw them at the intersection of 29th and 86th Streets, where a blockade operation was set up that culminated shortly after.
All occupants of the car got out while the victim of the robbery was filing the complaint at the 9th Police Station of La Plata. A case was opened classified as motor vehicle theft. The complainant reported that the group of criminals intercepted her, pretending to have firearms, forced her to get out of the car, and escaped with the vehicle.
The prosecutor in charge of the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office 1 of La Plata decided that all minors should be returned to their parents instead of sending them to an institution, without requesting the detention of those involved or ordering restrictive measures. Mercedes Catani was the prosecutor in charge of that case and made this decision.
